Arriving in Chongqing

Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (CKG)

Jiangbei Airport is connected to the metro by Line 10, which serves the airport terminals. For central Chongqing, transfer to Line 2 or Line 6 depending on your hotel area. Jiefangbei, Xiaoshizi and Linjiangmen are common access points for first-time visitors. A taxi is easier with luggage, but metro is cheaper and avoids traffic.

Typical airport route: Line 10 from the airport, transfer at Hongtudi or another interchange, then continue toward Jiefangbei / Xiaoshizi / Linjiangmen. Planning time: about 50-60 minutes by metro.

Payments: Alipay & WeChat Pay

Chongqing is effectively cashless. Set up mobile payment before you arrive, especially if you land late or plan to eat at small noodle shops. Most restaurants, metro gates, taxis and convenience stores accept Alipay or WeChat Pay.

Getting Around Chongqing

Metro

Chongqing's metro is one of the easiest ways to visit major sights. Line 1 reaches Jiefangbei and Ciqikou. Line 2 is the scenic monorail line and includes Liziba. Line 6 reaches Xiaoshizi, useful for Hongya Cave and central river areas. Line 10 connects the airport.

Important: Chongqing stations are vertical. Exit letters matter. A map may show a short distance, but the exit can still involve stairs, escalators or an unexpected floor.

Ride-Hailing and Taxis

DiDi is the most useful ride-hailing option for overseas visitors because it has an English interface. Taxis are widely available, but drivers may not speak English. Save your hotel name and destination in Chinese before getting in.

Walking

Chongqing sightseeing involves more walking than many visitors expect. Hongya Cave, Jiefangbei, Mountain City Trail and river viewpoints are best experienced on foot. Wear shoes with grip, especially after rain.
